Job Description Summary

The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) is a doctor appointed by GE Vernova, to assist the EHS organization and operational activities (across all segments, markets, operating regions of GE Vernova) to develop, deploy, and enforce a GE Vernova Health Policy.

The CMO reports directly to the GE Vernova Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) leader and will be responsible for operationalizing the Health (H) portion of GE Vernova’s global EHS strategy and vision to ensure effective integration of policies and standards within the energy businesses and, ultimately, cultivate a strong EHS culture across GE Vernova.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of a GE Vernova Health policy that is aligned to the EHS organization’s overall strategy, core values, and culture. The Health policy, at a minimum should address the following health standards in a cost effective manner:

  • pre-employment physicals

  • hygiene standards

  • first-aid training

  • annual physicals and vaccinations

  • health passport and medical files

  • substance abuse policy

  • Perform enterprise-level risk assessments to determine high health risk areas and develop emergency response plans, including medical evacuation, in conjunction with EHS and business teams.

  • Provide technical, functional expertise and direction, as needed, to business or segment health professionals.

  • The CMO will conduct occasional health audits to ascertain the robustness of business health management systems and frameworks to align expectations across the energy businesses and propose innovative solutions designed to lead the function in new directions, as needed.

  • Execute the operationalization of the Health policy as part of the broader EHS functional strategy. Create one certifiable governance framework, enterprise-level KPI, metrics, and reporting standards for the Health Policy.

  • Oversee the publication of periodic health information and alerts.

  • Respond, together with the EHS organization, to emergencies such as epidemics and major accidents.

  • Develop a network of relations with specialized medical centers and institutes that can provide medical expertise, aligned to the GE Vernova operating footprint.

  • Organize and lead daily, weekly, and/or monthly operating cadences to assess strategy and policy execution, problem-solving initiatives, escalations, and responses.

  • Develop and implement the cultural and process change strategies necessary to ensure successful implementation of a multi-year comprehensive and best-in-class health programs that effectively address employee and public safety considerations relating to GE Vernova’s global operations and products.

Basic Qualifications

  • Medical MD diploma

  • Domain expertise in crisis management or emergency medicine

  • Practiced medicine for at least 5 years after graduation in various medical functions and facilities.

  • 10+ years of experience in a high-level health management position in the energy industry or in another industrial sector.

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with the ability to develop credible and constructive relationships with peers, business partners, and other internal stakeholders.

  • Excellent and concise communication skills demonstrated with an ability to listen and communicate clearly, effectively, and persuasively, in verbal and written presentations.

  • Innovative critical thinker who is willing to challenge assumptions with data driven analysis.

Desired Characteristics

  • Experience performing enterprise-wide audits and driving change management policies/practices based on findings.

  • Ideal candidates will have experience with or knowledge of industrial hygiene, health and safety, ergonomics, and sustainability content and best practices.

  • Expertise in manufacturing, projects and services environments including construction, customer and contractor sites, and consortium partners.

  • Global, functional leadership in a highly matrixed business with similar complexity.

  • Proven ability to lead, motivate and work effectively with diverse, cross-functional global teams and external agencies in global environments spanning multiple time zones.

  • Demonstrated experience and ability to transform culture while delivering improvements against a long-term strategic vision pertaining to a large operating footprint (e.g., field, plant, and office operations).
