Role Summary

The Lead Controls Engineer works as part of the Solar & Storage Solution controls engineering team in an international environment and will be responsible for validation, field implementation and maintenance of GEV’s Solar, BESS and Hybrid Software and Control Systems for Projects. This includes but it is not limited to AC system, DC system, Building, SCADA, Unit level control and Plant level controls up to and including interfaces with the upper-level customer control systems.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Execute project deliverables including controls software and software validation, commissioning support for Solar, Battery energy storage system (BESS) & Hybrid Plant Control System

  • Support on-site startup and integration of various systems to our hardware software.

  • Track overall status of controls deliverables for assigned projects to meet goals of the control team.

  • Have close interaction with project managers and customers to drive requirements for solid customer satisfaction.

  • Possess excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with customers with confidence and clarity.

  • Develop, improve, and administer customer overview and operational training material for the control system.

  • Work across the Hybrid engineering and services organizations to prepare documentation for installation, commissioning, and operations for use by internal GEV employees and our customers.

  • Work in a team to design, develop and deploy the control hardware configuration for each project and design the communication network, including but not limited to DI/DO, Ethernet, FO etc.

  • Support problem identification and resolution of new and installed products.

  • Drive performance and reliability enhancements back to the product

  • Participate actively in controls design, Software code reviews, testing and software validation.

  • Work on standardization of controls project execution, software validation, implementation

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor/Master degree in Electrical /Electronics/Instrumentation/Controls Engineering / Science or in STEM from an accredited college or university

  • Minimum of 7+ years of experience with developing software & controls with high-level software languages, Project Execution.

Desired Characteristics

  • Strong experience in GEV’s MarkVIe product & tools like GE’s Toolbox ST, Workstation ST, Cimplicity software (SCADA), Simulink.

  • Demonstrated Software expertise in Solar, energy storage, Plant level controls, validation and verification, formal methods, systems integration, advanced controls, or related technologies.

  • Familiarity with standard industrial protocols such as OPC-UA, Modbus, EGD, Profibus & CAN bus etc.

  • Experience in grid code compliance for various countries

  • Work experience in any power generation industry such as renewable, thermal, nuclear etc.

  • Strong experience in communication network equipment functionality, selection, software features and hardware.

  • Demonstrated implementation of controls or systems integration in products and field engineering experience.

  • Ability to summarize and communicate complex technical information

  • Strong problem analysis and resolution skills

  • Curiosity, passion for excellence, drive to deliver on-time

  • Knowledge of power conversion systems and controls.

  • present technical plans in voice of customer

  • Experience working cross-functionally between Engineering, Sourcing, Manufacturing, Logistics, Product Management, etc.

  • Self-start attitude is strongly requested
