What impact you’ll make

As a member of the Process Industrialization team, you will be an active contributor to create, maintain, and execute the standard in how to develop and industrialize manufacturing processes using a team-based approach. The Plant Welding Process Engineer role sits within the Process Industrialization team and will support welding and brazing processes across the site as well as welding and brazing process development. The focus will be on managing the plant welding program, solving problems, and testing and developing new, or improving upon existing, manufacturing process by utilizing a standard framework.

Job Description

What you’ll do

  • Develop and maintain welding and fabrication processes, documentation, and certification/training for factory

  • Develop and enforce Weld Procedure Specifications (WPS) for new processes

  • Support Root Cause Analyses for joining-related defects

  • Support equipment upgrades from purchase through installation

  • Conduct cost / benefit analysis for changes to processes and/or equipment

  • Drive process Improvement, cycle reduction, and productivity improvements via process changes or improvements

  • Identify and reduce product quality issues caused by process variation

  • Support the quality function through integration of International Organization for Standardization (ISO) / Quality Center (QC) documentation and Joining Process Instructions

  • Lead New Technology Initiatives (NTI) and share best practices with other locations

  • Serve as a technical process expert for complex welding & joining processes across multiple products using a hands-on approach to resolve problems

  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring for welding engineers throughout the manufacturing plant

  • Manage performance of the direct reports to achieve organizational goals and encourage an atmosphere of engagement and encourages learning/self-growth. Initiates employee reviews, employee-counseling, and can carry out all Corporate Policy initiatives.

  • Develops constructive cross-functional partnerships with all internal customers as well as suppliers to drive strong communication between groups for effective operations.

  • Mastery over quality control & problem-solving techniques for welded and fabricated components, knowledge of key failure modes for all joining processes, problem diagnosis and resolution, understands and manages standards and tolerances for each process

What you’ll bring (Basic Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university or college in weld or materials science engineering OR a High School Diploma / GED from an accredited school or institution and minimum of 4 years of welding engineering experience with a Certified Welding Inspector Certificate)

  • A minimum of 4 years of relevant welding, materials, and/or engineering experience

Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be willing to work 100% onsite at the GE Greenville Manufacturing site

  • This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to export-controlled technology. GE will require proof of status prior to employment

What will make you stand out

  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector Certificate

  • Knowledge and understanding of applicable AWS, ASME, AS9100, ISO, & PED code requirements

  • Ability to read engineering drawings and specifications

  • Prior manufacturing process improvement accomplishments

  • Ability to manage priorities and achieve results

  • Prior exposure to and knowledge of Lean Manufacturing

  • Strong Project Management skills

  • Strong welding process knowledge

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills

  • Six Sigma training or equivalent Quality Training

Pay Transparency

The starting base pay range for this position is $80,000 - 110,000. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for a 10% performance bonus/variable incentive compensation/equity. This posting is expected to close on June 25, 2024, or thereafter.

*The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas.
