Job Description Summary

GridOS Scada applications are used to acquire, process and present real-time data to operators and help our customers to operate electric grids in real time. GE Vernova is currently looking to hire an innovative and passionate Staff Software Architect to drive the design of a new GridOS Scada environment. In this role, you will closely work with a team of 10-15 people who are responsible for developing, evolving, and supporting a collection of micro-services used in GridOS Scada, dedicated to a specialized functionality. You will act as a technical lead who owns internal and external communication, finalizing requirements and provide high-level architecture design for the GridOS Scada environment. The work will also involve in consolidation of 4-5 different Heritage Scada Products into one single solution. You will contribute to technologies choices, software design, software implementation, troubleshooting, and integration with other GE Vernova GridOS products. You will work with other architects in same space, who are part of global team.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Gather features of the existing Heritage Scada products to build requirements and priorities lists for the GridOS Scada environment.

  • Engage in developing Architecture journey, starting with GridOS Scada Hybrid Solution Architecture to a pure GridOS Scada Architecture.

  • Drive technologies choices that will shape the modeling services to ensure compatibility with the GridOS products ecosystem.

  • Own technical deliverables during the entire lifecycle of the products.

  • Execute on and serve as technical lead for the implementation of software solutions.

  • Closely work with Scada Technical Leads from Engineering, Services to come up with solid product architecture.

  • Provide expert knowledge and collaborate with other GridOS Scada Architects to identify technical requirements and estimate the technical effort required to implement these complex software solutions.

  • Engage throughout the full lifecycle of the different GridOS Scada applications, influencing decisions on design, and functionalities to keep the products on track in terms of budget and time.

  • Effectively drive standardization of the architecture processes across multiple product segments, limiting customization, and maximizing reuse of content developed for previous solutions.

  • Interact with Product Development Team, Commercial Team, Customers, Solution Providers (Partner / Integrators), and other cross-functional teams as required for the solution and implement processes to ensure best use of GridOS products and services.

  • Effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with peers and team members as an inclusive team member, supporting pre-sale strategy (as needed) and project execution.

  • Serve as a technical leader or mentor on complex, integrated implementations, either within individual GridOS product teams and cross-organizationally.

  • Work independently as well as part of the team.

  • Work in a self-directed fashion to proactively identify system problems, failures, and areas for improvement.

  • Track Architecture issue resolution and document solutions implemented and create best practices guide.

Education Qualification

The position requires a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering or STEM Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) and 8-10 years of related experience. Electrical or Computer Science Engineering would be an advantage.

Technical Expertise:

  • Applies architecture development process & methods at various stages of the products lifecycle.

  • Possesses proven ability to design software targeted for on-premises and/or cloud-based environments.

  • Ability to isolate highly complex scenarios down to actionable items and drive solutions to resolution.

  • Excellent knowledge of software and application design and architecture

  • Ability to mentor others on troubleshooting and problem-solving techniques.

  • Experience in designing Restful APIs.

  • Strong knowledge with Kubernetes and containerization.

  • Experience using logging and monitoring tools such as Splunk, Elasticsearch, Kibana, Prometheus and Jaeger.

  • Knowledge of event driven applications is a plus.

  • Understanding of Java and C++ programming concepts

  • Experience with electric utility industry practices

  • Strong knowledge of customer perspective and needs.

  • Proven software design skills at the application and technical area level.

  • Ability to see integration issues and to preclude schedule impacts.

  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to write professional and technical reports and procedures. Ability to make formal and informal presentation to technical and non-technical staff and customers.

  • End-to-end ownership and accountability for tasks is required, including gathering requirements, completing technical work, proposing a testing plan, and documenting functionalities.

  • More than 3 years of experience in architecture design, especially micro services.

  • Familiar with Software engineering techniques.

  • Should be able to provide a framework for the development of Scada software and system that will result in high quality solution.

  • Should have exposure to agile methodologies such as SCRUM.

  • Self-starter; comfortable pulling together information from multiple resources.

• Understand how internal and/or external business model works and facilitate active customer engagement.

Should be curious to learn and understand the Heritage Product Architecture, so that the new GridOS Scada architecture accommodates the necessary pieces from Product and Customer environment perspective. This should ensure that the integration and transitions are smooth and faster.
