The Automation HMI developer plays an important role connecting functionality to good user experience. A cross-functional engineering discipline centered on an approach, mindset, and process. All activities that consider both the business and the technical needs of the customers with the goal of providing a quality HMI product.

The Automation HMI developer has a good experience of GE Power Conversion Automation products and systems already deployed or similar.

One of the key skills of the Automation HMI developer is to collaborate closely with the various stakeholders such as business team application engineers, project engineers, test engineers, lab technicians, application engineers and work closely with our preferred HMI vendor to ensure the HMI products and solutions are designed for success.

Job Description

In this role you will focus on:

  • Supports HMI product requirements (internal and external), defines and deploys components and sub systems making up the overall HMI architecture.

  • Defines and provides scope management. (defines the what)

  • Utilizes in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline, analytical thinking, and technical experience to execute HMI strategy.

  • Has knowledge of best practices and how own area integrates with others; is aware of the competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market from a user’s perspective.

  • Uses technical experience, analytical thinking, judgment and has ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters to address more complicated manufacturing processes with technical variety and/or interdependent production cycles. Uses multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own teams to arrive at decisions.

  • Acts as a resource for colleagues with less HMI experience. May lead small projects with low risks and resource requirements. Explains information; developing skills to bring team members to consensus around topics within field.

  • Ensuring the product and Automation solution functional requirements are clearly documented prior to starting development work.

  • Ensuring products, tools and systems are fit for purpose and scalable, maintainable and secure by design.

  • Evaluating 3rd party software needed to utilise to improve efficiency of the team or solutions.

  • Identifying and addressing technical risks and challenges.

  • Proactively identifying HMI issues within the software and solutions related to matters such as interoperability and performance.

We are looking for

Education:

  • This role requires experience in the Engineering/Technology & Systems HMI Architecture and Design. Knowledge level is comparable to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma with relevant experience).

Experience:

  • Extensive experience in Automation software development for industrial control systems

  • Hands-on experience essential, including various programming languages, frameworks and tools.

  • Solid knowledge of software tools for designing and documenting systems

  • Experience in system integration and automation of validation systems.

  • Good knowledge of IEC62351 and IEC 62443

  • Good knowledge of industry protocols such as IEC 61850, Profibus, Profinet etc.

Skills:

  • A good understanding of HMI software development, architecture, interoperability both within a computer and between computers is essential.

  • Working knowledge on network design, protocols and cyber security is expected.

  • Experience of software engineering with PLCs utilising IEC61131
