This is a technical role and will involve working in a multi-disciplinary team of engineers to deliver control algorithms used in low voltage & medium voltage MW-scale power electronics converter systems and electrical drives for Marine, Naval, Energy and Industry applications. These drive systems are DC and AC multiphase drives ranging from a few hundred KW to tens of MW.

In this role you will focus on:

  • Managing a team of engineers to specify, design, code, validate and maintain control systems for power electronic converters and electrical drive systems based on customer and internal requirements.

  • Designing Core Drive Control firmware and control algorithms for vector control of electrical drive systems, and for various converter topologies including PWM and other control strategies.

  • Defining the architectures, coding standards, and creating road maps for embedded control software & hardware to be deployed on FPGAs & DSPs.

  • Developing and maintaining good engineering interfaces with the wider engineering community and peer groups within GE Vernova.

  • Supporting commissioning and validation of electrical drive systems.

  • Integrating control software into larger systems and verifying their functionality.

  • Writing technical documentation.

  • Applying best engineering standards and developing design practices ensuring your designs comply with relevant health & safety and international standards.

  • Travelling to customer sites for meetings or equipment validation, typically a few times per year for a duration of a few days up to 2 weeks.

We are looking for a committed and professional individual with:

  • A relevant degree in Electrical, Electronics, Software Engineering or equivalent, or significant experience in an industrial software engineering environment.

  • A sound understanding of programming principles of electrical machines, electrical drives, converters, etc.

  • Deep domain knowledge of control strategies for power electronics converter systems, embedded control systems, PWM (and other switching strategies), electrical machines, and encoderless field-oriented algorithms.

  • Experience with linear & non-linear control systems

  • Proficiency using simulation tools such as MATLAB/Simulink etc.

  • Experience with C-code programming or automatic code generation.

  • An awareness of embedded software design, microprocessor & FPGA programming principles.

  • Knowledge of the entire Product Life Cycle, from requirements flow down, initial design to detailed design, through levels of testing and validation and maintenance.

  • Comprehensive understanding of real-time operating systems and methods/approaches underlying the design and writing of software for a real-time environment.

  • Good understanding of floating point and integer mathematics.
