GE Grid Services North America supports one of the main Canadian Grid utilities with a High Voltage Direct Current line maintenance. To provide the best service to this customer, GE FACTS Service team is looking for a synchronous condenser specialist. In this role, you will assist the customer engineers and operators with troubleshooting, operation monitoring, inspection/maintenance/repair preparation. You will support the development of operation procedures.
The role will be based in St John, NL, Canada. You will work at customer sub-station close to St Johns every day from Monday to Friday. You will be required to be on call during customer emergencies.

Role Summary/Purpose
GE Grid Services North America supports one of the main Canadian Grid utilities with a High Voltage Direct Current line maintenance. To provide the best service to this customer, GE FACTS Service team is looking for a synchronous condenser specialist. In this role, you will assist the customer engineers and operators with troubleshooting, operation monitoring, inspection/maintenance/repair preparation. You will support the development of operation procedures.
The role will be based in St John, NL, Canada. You will work at customer sub-station close to St Johns every day from Monday to Friday. You will be required to be on call during customer emergencies.
Essential Responsibilities:
Be the main point of contact between the customer and any GE unit/Contractor for the Synchronous Condenser systems
Provide a mentorship role to customer maintenance staff on synchronous condenser machines and controls. Assist customer staff with interpretation of system alarms
Troubleshoot events/trips in operation and document them; lead the troubleshooting to the resolution with third party if required
Prepare the yearly maintenances (procedures, planning, tool lists, LOTO…) and manage the engineers/technician/sub-contractors involved in the maintenances
Manage punch list open items for the three machines and their balance of plant
Authorize machine re-energizations after trips when you estimate it is safe
Assist the customer in routine inspection and testing of equipment and parts.
Prepare weekly and monthly reports.
Requirements:
Bachelor or master’s in electrical or mechanical engineering
Fluent in English
5 years experience in design or maintenance experience with medium or high voltage electrical machines mandatory (generators, motors…)
5 years experience with machine control troubleshooting or/and commissioning
Desired Skills:
Experience with GE medium or high voltage machines
Experience with large machine oil bearings
Leadership in front of customer
Experience with nitrogen cooling systems
Experience with AC sub-station commissioning
Experience with relay protection tests
