Job Description Summary

The Technical sales Application Engineer (AE) shall be an interface between RM Factory/Application Engineer (AE), Sales manager and the Customer. The role is part of the Rotating Machines.

The AE shall support the Regional Sales team to win motors, generators and associated systems, power electronics into segments like Marine, Power, Oil & Gas and Industry segments (Metal, Mining, Material handling etc.) and grow the region. The RM application engineer should have enough knowledge on Motor designs and recommend customer and repair shops on possible repair options.

The AE should have in depth knowledge on design, maintenance & Servicing of high-power medium voltage Motors, Generators and associated electrical and electronic systems (Excitation/AVR).

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • The AE would be responsible to review customer specifications, understand requirements, prepare deviations to specifications, interface with concerned manufacturing facility AE to generate Motor/generator design & develop a competitive proposal that is in line with requirements.

  • If certain specific customer requirements are not technically feasible due to manufacturing limitations or are prohibitively expensive without bringing tangible benefit for the customer application, these shall be discussed with customer/consultant to arrive at an acceptable solution.

  • The AE shall also bring to the attention of the customer/design consultant any mandatory missing specifications for inclusion.

  • In certain cases where the end user is directly involved the AE shall recommend additional features which bring long term benefit to the end user, as options for his consideration.

  • Support regional sales managers to identify potential customers who could be targeted for Maintenance, Replacement, Inspection of motors & generators.

  • Shall be able to assess and confirm capabilities of sub suppliers/workshops where overhaul or repair of motors & Generators could be carried out.

  • Provides informal guidance to new team members. Explain complex information to others in straight forward situations.

  • Assist Sales manager to define Stator/Rotor repairs, power upgrades on Motors and Generators of GE IB and replacement of competitor IB.

  • He shall ensure that all due process is followed. This shall include R1, Technical Risk analysis & Compliance plan before firm proposal issuance & proper handover to execution team after receipt of PO.

  • Requires specialized knowledge across GE product lines, markets, sales processes, or customer groups.

  • Good experience on motor design software is an advantage.

  • Has ability to assess quality of information given and ask pertinent questions to partners or customers. Able to offer new solutions to problems outside of set parameters and is able to construct and provide recommendations. Uses multiple internal and some external sources outside of own function to help arrive at a direction.

  • Shall be able to prioritize & manage multiple opportunities simultaneously.

  • Shall possess proven interpersonal skills & excellent command in English, as Communication with direct colleagues, customers and the business about design and coordination services should have to be rendered.

  • The AE role includes growing repair opportunities of Rotating machines. The AE need to closely work with various workshops in the MEAT region which includes UAE, QATAR, OMAN, Saudi, Nigeria, South Africa, Egypt, Turkey etc. The AE need to have capability to assess the workshop capability suitability to repair GE machines and qualify them and manage the Channel management of Repair shops.

  • The AE need to work very closely with RM factories Nancy, Rugby, Peterborough team and Canada and have good domain knowledge to collaborate with customer and workshops on spare opportunities and repair solutions

  • The AE should have good knowledge on GEPC solutions like TIMSA, APM and Digital solutions on RM inspection

  • Well conversant on motor minor, major maintenance procedures and major overhaul of motor and Generators.

Required Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering / Mechanical Engineering or relevant university degree.

  • 10 years+ of experience in Electrical Machinery/Rotating machine segment.

  • Knowledge on Power Electronics (HV VFD, AVR, EXCITATION) will be an added advantage

  • Design software knowledge on RM especially Nancy, Rugby facility

  • Fluency in English is mandatory. Knowledge of other languages like Arabic and French will be an added advantage

  • Should have demonstrated problem solving abilities, program and project management skills
