GE Vernova Lead Engineer - Mechanical Systems (Remote Eligible, US) in Wilmington, North Carolina

Job Description Summary

The Lead SMR Mechanical Systems Engineer demonstrates accountability for functional, business, and broad company objectives. This is a technical position that integrates and develops processes that meet business needs across the organization and requires long-term planning. This role contributes to the overall strategy of the business and manages complex issues within the Systems Engineering area.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for Mechanical Nuclear Island Hydraulic Systems (MNIHS) engineering activities that support the BWRX-300 Small Modular Reactor (SMR) design.

  • Activities focus on fluid systems and include flow, cleanup, and heat transfer capabilities to meet system requirements. Develop Process Flow Calculations/Diagrams, Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), and other engineering deliverable documents associated with the systems.

  • Responsible for development of specifications for fluid system in-line components.

  • Plan / develop technical and management processes to improve both team and customer productivity

  • Provide support to the Licensing organization for regulatory related deliverables.

  • Responsible for analysis and design work supporting requirements specifications

  • Interface with cross-functional teams and departments to complete these tasks

  • Improve areas of project execution and department management through Six Sigma methodology

  • Support development efforts for both new products and new technology

  • Responsible to undertake the necessary corrective and preventive actions resulting from Quality non-compliance monitoring and audit programs

  • Responsible for driving continuous improvement initiatives, such as Lean Action Work Outs (LAWO).

  • A job at this level requires good interpersonal skills and may be required to lead design activities. Develops strong customer relationships and serves as the interface between customer and GE. Explains technical information to others.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Nuclear, or Equivalent Engineering discipline from an accredited university or college

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in an Engineering role

Eligibility Requirements:

  • This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to U.S. export-controlled technology. GE will require proof of U.S. person status prior to employment.

  • Preferred work location is GE Hitachi Nuclear headquarters in Wilmington NC, but highly qualified remote (US Based) candidates will be considered

Desired Characteristics:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in an engineering or technical discipline

  • SRO license qualifications

  • Ability to lead a team to solve engineering tasks

  • Knowledge of working within a regulated environment (nuclear). Knowledge of quality standards and systems (e.g., NQA-1 and ISO 9000).

  • Strong organization skills and problem-solving abilities

  • Prior experience in system delivery of complex analyses

  • Strong customer mindset

  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and cope under pressure

  • Six Sigma training is preferred

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills

The base pay range for this position is $86-122k. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for bonuses, such as a performance bonus/variable incentive compensation/equity. This position is expected to close on 8/5/2024.

The company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120%, or 130% of salary in certain areas.
